No longer will we have to remain with an unfair employer because we are held hostage by their health insurance policy.

No longer can insurance companies cap how much they will pay out to us.

No longer will we be forced to pay exorbitant COBRA rates when we change jobs.

No longer will we be intimidated not to begin our own business or do what we want to do because of fear of losing our health insurance.

No longer will we be held hostage by health insurance companies who have been able to increase rates as much as they like and whenever they like.

No longer will we be turned down for insurance for preexisting conditions which means our life savings and our homes are at risk for medical expenses.

No longer will women have to pay higher rates than men for health insurance.

No longer will health insurance companies be able to take all of our premiums when we are well, and drop us as soon as we get sick.

No longer will insurance companies come between us and our doctors.

No longer will children be turned down for health insurance because they are sick.

No longer will children's health insurance be canceled because their care becomes too expense for an insurance company.

No longer will we have to fill out 23 page questionnaire when applying for insurance listing all of our illnesses for the last twenty years.

No more letters from health insurance companies threatening to cancel your insurance if you forgot to mention any illness over the last twenty years.

No longer do we have to have a job to have health insurance.

No longer do we have to beg for health insurance from health insurance companies, we will be free to go to health insurance supermarkets and shop for the best deal.

No longer will we have to worry about our life's savings going for medical bills, we are now free to save and be secure in owning our homes.

No longer will we be the only industrialized country in the world that has 20% uninsured people.

No longer will we have to argue with insurance companies about who pays what. The plans will be spelled out in plain English.

No longer will we have to be subjected to lies about the health care bill. Now we will see the results with our own eyes.

And finally, we can all have renewed faith in the great America system of government for ALL the people.

E., there's not a whole lot to disagree with here except for the last statement. I'm glad all of those "no longers" will soon be a reality. I just don't believe that higher taxes and more government control of people's lives was the right way to accomplish these things. Let's face it, this was not a very libertarian bill that just passed. Many of its tenets are going to be challenged in court, and rightfully so.

Also, you say, "No longer will women have to pay higher rates than men for health insurance", and I'm glad, but when will the day come when men will no longer have to pay higher rates than women for auto insurance?

You say, "No longer will children be turned down for health insurance because they are sick", and I'm glad, but why not provide the same protection to adults right now instead of making them wait until 2014? What happened to the concept of equal protection under law?

You say, "No longer will insurance companies come between us and our doctors", and I'm glad, but why put the government between us and our doctors? Explain why that's not just as bad.

Hi Terry, thanks for reading and commenting. I agree with you on most of these things. I, too wish that the laws would be enacted sooner. However, in order to effect health care legislation that works, and that can be passed in congress, compromises had to be made, and frankly, I believe that Obama was genius in getting this passed and I am very grateful to him.

I know that many people have not had illness to contend with and feel secure in their insurance program, but please believe me when I say, as a friend, that these insurance companies are like sharks just below the water, and until you have to step into the water you don't realize how sharp their teeth are.

They deviously take your premiums every month for maybe twenty years, all profit for them, and when you get sick? They drop you. That's how they make money. The government doesn't do that. So yes, definitely, absolutely, I prefer the government over any insurance CEO, any day. I am very happy with my Medicare and Social Security. Never a problem, but with insurance companies, for me personally, it has been a nightmare. Aetna wouldn't pay legitimate claims, just flat refused,  and Blue Cross turned my wife down for insurance after exhaustive questionaires and personal interviews!  because of an illness that happened ten years ago that was cured within a coupe of days.

Sorry, I'll have to vote Democratic and for Obama from here on out. I respect the guts that the party displayed over the last year, especially Pelosi. She is one tough cookie.

It looks like we're going to have to agree to disagree here. Obviously, we both want the same outcome, just by a different method. I've had illesses to contend with, including cancer twice, but I've been fortunate enough to have excellent group insurance policies each time. In fact, I'm going to post my own proposal for health care reform on SearchWarp. It is based on group insurance for all. I'll probably post it today or tomorrow. Be sure to let me know what you think.

Well done, except for one thing. The 'no longer' should include this qualifier: 'until the government can't afford it.' I too am happy, yet I am more worried than happy, to be honest. Let's hope . . .

Thanks Mike. I guess we won't know how it plays out for awhile, but I am very relieved, more so than if insurance companies still ruled. They are the worst, from my personal experience. like sharks just under the surface of the water, taking your premiums - until you step into the water (get sick), then you feel their sharp teeth when they drop you and you are personally responsible for tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in health care expenses. Believe me it happens everyday to the best of people, and the best of hard working people lose everything. Only in America does this happen - but no more, thanks to one great president.

Thanks Mike.

If the Republicans can always break the bank by starting stupid wars overseas, lining the pockets olf Wall Street, the Military Industrial complex and weapons purveyors of death, (without doing as Obama has done by responsibly balancing the budget of his HC proposal), then I think that we can provide HC to people like all the other industrial countries of the world have done. I'll just bet that you won't see Obama being greedy and stupid enough to get us involved with any more wars overseas just to falsely boost the economy and Wall Street.

I guess we won't know HC plays out for awhile, but I am very relieved, more so than if insurance companies still ruled. They are the worst, from my personal experience. like sharks just under the surface of the water, taking your premiums - until you step into the water (get seriously ill), then you feel their sharp teeth when they drop you and you are personally responsible for tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in health care expenses. Believe me it happens everyday to the best of people, and the best of hard working people lose everything. Only in America does this happen - but no more, thanks to one great president.

YEAA, plus a BIG sigh of relief. Last year I made the comment that if Obama could get health care reform passed it would be a flat out miracle. Yes, we may end up paying more taxes. If what is proposed happens, much of the tax increase will come from those who have the most. I have to assume that the people who complain they don't want government dictating their health care haven't had to deal with insurance companies. At present they are dictating our health care. Ask any doctor. From my experience with Medicare, I have to say the government does a much better job than any insurance we've had.

Of course, Joyce, the truth always comes out eventually. It's just beyond me how lies are so easily digested and then regurgitated by unaware people. Oh well, I heard that 62% of Americans believe that the earth is 6,000 years old, If that is true, you can see what the rest of us are up against!

Somewhere along the line, (or maybe forever?) we seem to have given up on independent thinking, and simply follow the loudest leader. Especially if what is being shouted is a fear message.

I try to intelligently and independently evaluate every idea. but admittedly have a bias toward helping others not as fortunate as myself. If that's a weakness, or a failure of some kind, I could care less. I do what I think is right after careful evaluation and consideration of all angles, to the best of my ability, and to the best of the information available, And once I make a determination, it's not easy to spin me. You are probably like-minded. I tend to listen more to people's actions than their rhetoric, for example the actual minority and female count in the US congress by party. You can't spin that by injecting a few minorities into a Republican president's cabinet to look good.

Wow, lots of comments. Let's see what this bill is really about before we celebrate, but I am with you, e: Looks like we as a nation are turning a corner.

Hey Michael, thank for commenting. I knew you'd show up! Yes a very lively debate and very good points.(I was gone all day so didn't get in on the fray, but G watched my back!)  I'm sure if You and I and John and G, and Goshwin came down to Austin, listened to some country music, had a few beers, shot a little pool, in no time we would have the problems of the world solved! Anyhow, I can sum it all up as follows: (And this will carry through with the immigration debate as well) Democrats - -welfare. Republicans - - wealthfare. :)

Best......e.
